A word from the IM Free Elder Board

Dear Church Family,

There are two items we need to bring to your attention. How we have missed worshipping together as a church body. The elders have prayerfully made the decision that we can no longer maintain our distance and still be true to our spiritual responsibility to nurture, equip and worship, Hebrews 10:25. Thus we will be meeting in our church building starting at 10:00 am Sunday, February 14th. If you need to maintain your personal distance we will put the message on the internet by 12pm. Whether you come or stay home, each one of you is an integral and necessary part of our body.

Let every thought and action be governed by the love of Jesus.

The next item comes as we were surprised when Thom announced last week was his tenth anniversary as pastor with a total of 15 years with us.

Thom will be starting a six month sabbatical beginning March 1st. This will be a time for him to refresh, regroup and yes, relax. We are thankful that we are able to give him this much needed time.

Please respect his privacy and space. Any items for the church, please bring to Ted, Jeff or Steve.

Serving the Lord together,

Ted Noel, Steve King, Milo Waller and Jeff Looper

A Letter from the Elder Board

Dear Church Family,

We had hoped that by now the strange and troubling times would be behind us. Unfortunately, that is not the case. However, we know that God is still our God and not only is His love and care ours in abundance, but His precepts and principles are still our guide for daily life.

Each year at Christmas time we take a love offering for our pastor and his family. However, during this unprecedented year, Thom and Amy would like the love offering to go to our benevolence fund. This is a fund designated to go to people in our area who are in need. We believe that, in the near future, this fund is going to be a valuable resource in our community as so many people are hurting right now. We believe that God’s principles of caring, generosity and giving aren’t set aside because of what goes on around us. This year is a little more difficult, but we want to give you the opportunity to give.

This year, if you want to give to the love offering, just send a check to the church PO Box with the designation “Christmas Gift” on it and Dana will put it in the benevolence fund to help those in our community in need. Unlike the Christmas gifts of the past, this gift is tax deductible, and you will get a receipt from Dana for tax purposes.

You can send this, along with your regular giving to:

IM Free Church
PO Box 605
McArthur, CA
96056

Please continue to pray for our church, our community and our world during this Christmas Season.

In His Service,

IM Free Church Elder board,

Jeff Looper
Ted Noel
Steve King

We are online only for our Sunday morning services

Because of the increased restrictions surrounding Covid 19, our services are recorded on Sunday mornings without a congregation so that we can adhere to the guidelines and keep everyone safe. The services will be uploaded on Sunday mornings by 10am until we will be able to meet again in person. Please check with the website for any updates to our schedule. We thank you for our patience and we look forward to being able to meet in person once again soon!

Nobody Expected the Empty Tomb, but Everybody Needed It

On Easter morning, nobody expected the tomb to be empty. Most of the disciples were actually spending the first Easter like many of us are, huddled in their homes, perhaps scared of what was happening outside. According to Matthew 28, just the two Marys were visiting the grave when everything changed.

The passage says that there was an earthquake, the guards fainted and the angel rolled the stone aside

Services Will Be Cancelled Until Further Notice

As most of you know our president announced a national emergency last week and yesterday our governor ordered our entire state to “shelter-in-place”. We have also been told to maintain our social distancing by not gathering in crowds of more than 10 people. This has also been echoed by medical experts and the CDC, and we have been told that we may be doing this for a while. Consequently, we are going to be suspending our service this Sunday, March 22nd. I will still be preparing and recording a sermon which will be available on the website on Sunday. We will be continuing to go through our series in Matthew. Each week, I will be putting up the next sermon whether we are gathering in-person or not.

Burney Food Co-op

Today I had the honor of speaking at the Burney Food Co-op.  For those who might not know, the Co-op is an awesome ministry sponsored by all of the churches in the intermountain area.  They meet a few times a month and at each meeting different pastors in the area take turns leading the Bible study time.  This week, I spoke from Luke 9: 23-35, the Transfiguration on top of the mountain...

Come Before Winter

By Pastor Thom McKee

Last Sunday we looked at a personal letter written by Paul to his protégé Timothy. Many scholars believe that these may have been Paul's last words to Timothy and that he may have died shortly thereafter.  The book is called 2 Timothy, and it is part of what we call the pastoral epistles in the Bible...

Children's Christmas Program

We had a bit of a different Christmas program this year.  This year we had several children read from the Christmas story from Luke and Matthew, and we had a Children's sermon from Pastor Thom.  And of course we had the children singing Christmas carol's for the congregation.  It's always a great time watching the children perform and to see the hard work pay off for those who read in front of the church.  It is also a great time hearing them sing the classic Christmas songs for the church's enjoyment.

Christmas Cantata

This past weekend was the Third Annual Christmas Cantata held at our church.  The Cantata is put on every year by the Community Choir made up of members of multiple churches and other people in the community.  Accompanying the adult choir this year was a children's choir and bell performance.  It is always a pleasure to have the Cantata at our church and it's a joy to fill up our sanctuary with people from throughout the community.

Heroes of Faith

We have been going through Hebrews 11 during our Sunday morning sermon series for the past seven weeks.  While our sermon series is called Pictures of Faith, Hebrews 11 has often been referred to as the “Hall of Faith” or “Faith Heroes” throughout the years.  So as we have been learning about Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and more, I have been thinking about my own personal heroes of faith...

Second Harvest and Baptism

Today we had our annual Second Harvest and Baptism service.  First, pastor Thom preached from Deuteronomy, then we had the pleasure of baptizing one of our awesome kids, and finally we had delicious Tri-Tip and other yummy snacks as a church family.  It is always a great time when we can join together as the body of Christ and fellowship together.  Christ left us, His church behind, and we grow together when we fellowship and lift each other up...

The Real Meaning of our Harvest Celebration

by Thom McKee

Early this summer, I woke up to take a quick shower before I was going to head to Redding for a doctor's appointment.  But when I tried to turn on the shower, I knew that it was going to be a bad day.  No water was coming out and I knew the reason immediately.  Our well pump was out.  We have known that this little pump buried one hundred feet below us was on its last leg. But I had hoped that it was going to last a little longer....
